The Renault F1 Team is providing unique items, including overalls and car parts, which will be auctioned online at www.oxfam.org.uk/f1. The auction will run for 1 month from September 24thth and gives enthusiasts the opportunity to bid for collectible pieces of Renault F1 Team's history, including six signed Fernando Alonso items, six Jarno Trulli items, eleven original car parts and a chance to visit the Renault F1 Team factory. The money raised this year will once again go to Oxfam's project providing water for poor communities in North Eastern Brazil, where 11 million rural people do not have access to clean water. The lack of clean water causes illness and disease and is a huge factor in the high infant mortality rate in the region. Ensuring access to a safe water supply is the vital priority and, in partnership with other organisations, Oxfam is implementing a huge project to build one million water tanks to collect rainwater in this region. "Last years auction raised more than £16,000 for our work in Brazil, enough money to build water tanks for 56 families, providing water for the 8 month dry season. Oxfam is extremely grateful for the Renault F1 Team's commitment to this project, and hope that this year's auction will be as successful as the previous two years," said Stephen Harvey from Oxfam. Fernando Alonso commented: "This is a great opportunity to be able to help Oxfam's vital work. We race in Brazil every year, and therefore felt it would make sense to be involved in this project". The auction is being hosted by eBay and can be accessed via www.oxfam.org.uk/f1 or www.renaultf1.com. An average of five items are for sale at any one time, and each lot will be open for bids for 7 days. Items include: · Fernando Alonso and Jarno Trulli's fireproof racing overalls, gloves, balaclava and vest (each worn by the driver during the 2004 season) and two signed team caps. · Car parts including a pair of exhaust manifolds mounted on a carbon fibre base, half an engine cover cancellation, a rear wing, a rear wing end plate, a barge board, three magnesium wheels, and two pairs of gears. · A visit for two to the Renault F1 Team factory in Oxfordshire. "I am very pleased to know that some of the clothing that could save my life during a Grand Prix can now be used to help other people. It is great that we can both offer F1 enthusiasts a chance to buy these items and raise money for this Oxfam project", said Fernando Alonso.
