'You
can't un-disqualify someone' - Mosley 07-03-2004 'You can't un-disqualify someone.' That's how FIA president Max Mosley defended stewards of the US Grand Prix amid criticism they shouldn't have taken so long to black-flag Juan Pablo Montoya. The Colombian broke a rule 'all the teams wanted,' he said at Magny-Cours. Drivers aren't allowed to leave the grid and hop into a spare-car less than 15 seconds before the grid departs for the pre-race installation (warm-up) lap. Mosley said Williams' JPM broke the rule by 'three seconds. ''We knew it was marginal,'' he said. ''So our people had to get videos, timing sheets, witness statements ... to be quite certain he did infringe it.'' The retiring chief said a wrongful DSQ would be 'terrible. ''It's like executing someone,'' he said. ''You can't un-execute them. You must not put somebody out of the race unless you are absolutely certain of it.'' * F1 doctor Sid Watkins and an FIA delegation went to Paul Ricard, the F1 test circuit owned by Bernie Ecclestone, last Saturday to carry out a 'workshop.'
