Technical
directors agree to slow down 07-10-2004 Formula One teams have agreed to slow down. Faced with an ultimatum of Max Mosley's unilateral power, Bob Bell said technical directors devised a package to 'reduce chassis performance.' It includes reducing the height of the diffuser to cut downforce by 25 percent. ''We are under an obligation to cut performance,'' said Renault's tech boss. ''I think this represents a sensible step.'' The Technical Working Group met at Silverstone (England). On the engine side, one engine per two-weekends will come in next season, followed by the change from 3.0 litre V10s to 2.4 litre V8s in 2006. Rob White reckons canning V10s is an 'effective' solution. He said it should decrease power ''of the order of 200hp. [V8s] will remain unique and spectacular - it will still have no equal in other series.'' Bell, engine chief, said the changes have not yet become 'concrete reality.' * Ferrari's Ross Brawn said change does not suit Ferrari. ''But we have to accept it,'' said the Englishman, ''because every year the cars get faster.''
