Distance: 51 laps, 242 kms Team SAUBER PETRONAS has completed a three-day test in Barcelona with the new SAUBER PETRONAS C21. Running at the Circuit de Catalunya, Felipe Massa had his first experience of the car and set his best time of the day in 1m 20.376s, during the course of 51 laps. The SAUBER PETRONAS C21 ran unbranded during the tests, but will be revealed in its full livery at the official launch near Zürich this Friday.

Jacky Eeckelaert (Head of Vehicle Engineering): "We worked on scanning the different set-ups of the C21, including work on launch control and a tyre evaluation program. Felipe did three brief runs this morning before a transmission problem unfortunately brought him to a halt in the pits during the launch control testing. We were able to fix the problem, though, and Felipe completed 51 laps in total."

Felipe Massa: "After this first test I am full of enthusiasm for the SAUBER PETRONAS C21. It has more grip and is more stable than the C20, which in turn makes me more confident at the wheel. The Petronas 02A engine is powerful and well integrated, and we have a very competitive package."

Team SAUBER PETRONAS today continued its three-day test with the new SAUBER PETRONAS C21 in Barcelona as do McLaren.

Nick Heidfeld was once again at the wheel and his fastest time of the day of 1m 19.290s, during the course of 54 laps. Felipe Massa arrived in Spain today, ready to take over the driving duties tomorrow when he will experience the C21 for the first time.

Willy Rampf (Technical director): "Once again our programme embraced aerodynamic measurement and evaluation, and systems checks of the C21 and we were able to do more laps in a shorter time than yesterday. We also carried out a programme of tyre testing in conjunction with Bridgestone. "Both programmes were satisfactorily concluded by two o'clock, so we took the rest of the afternoon to check over the C21 and to prepare it in readiness for Felipe's first run tomorrow."

Nick Heidfeld: "Once again I enjoyed my stint at the wheel of the C21, and it continued to give me positive feelings. I can tell that it is improvement on the C20 even at this early stage, and that it is going to be good car."

Distance:
52 laps, 247 kms

Team SAUBER PETRONAS began a three-day test with the new SAUBER PETRONAS C21 at the Circuit de Catalunya today.

Nick Heidfeld
drove the new car to the second fastest time of the day in 1m19.585s, only two-tenths of a second slower than the new McLaren.

Nick will continue the test tomorrow, with Felipe Massa taking over on Wednesday when he will have his first experience of the C21.

Willy Rampf (Technical director): "Our programme today centred on aerodynamic measurement and evaluation, together with systems checks of the C21. We did not get in as many laps as we had hoped, but that can be the case when you are carrying out this sort of work establishing the performance baselines with a new car. "We will continue this programme tomorrow, and will also conduct tyre tests for Bridgestone."

Nick Heidfeld: "The C21 feels positive and very responsive to set-up changes, which is always gratifying. I enjoyed myself a lot today, and we are all encouraged by our lap times."

Successful rollout for Team SAUBER PETRONAS and the C21

Team SAUBER PETRONAS has completed a successful rollout of the new SAUBER PETRONAS C21 in Fiorano, yesterday 16th January 2002 at Scuderia Ferrari's team home track in Italy. The C21 is an all-new contender, evolved from the highly successful C20 that brought the team fourth place in the 2001 FIA Formula One World Championship.

Jacky Eeckelaert (Head of Vehicle Engineering): "We started running at 9am yesterday and Nick Heidfeld completed 59 laps. He reported no problems and achieved a fastest lap of 1m 00.59s. Felipe Massa drove the C20 at the same time so that we could make valid comparisons between the performance of the two cars, and also to continue his training.
