06-21-2004 Ralf Schumacher is recovering in a downtown Indianapolis hospital. The German, visited by BMW director Mario Theissen in the track's medical centre after a 310km/h shunt at Indianapolis, is 'bruised and shaken' but otherwise ok. A source said Ralf, 28, will 'definitely' stay in hospital overnight. Another source said he might stay there for 'several days.' ''I saw him when he was getting a first check,'' said Theissen. ''I spoke to him for a bit and he is ok.'' The massive rear-first shunt into the banked oval wall was caused by a deflated left rear tyre, Williams' tyre partner Michelin confirmed after an examination. ''It's clear [it] was damaged ... probably in the wake of the [first corner shunt],'' said Pierre Dupasquier, who said Fernando Alonso had the same problem. |
