07-03-2004 Fernando Alonso popped-in a surprise pole at a warm and dry Magny-Cours. The Spaniard, who hasn't had a stellar season but earned his third qualifying high, said he'll 'race for the win' despite rumour of a light fuel-load. ''It was a good lap,'' he said, ''even if I had some understeer. 'I'm happy to take pole but the main job is still to come.'' Pat Symonds only fuelled speculation of low fuel when he said the Renault is only 'reasonably' balanced and pole position is a 'satisfactory' result. * Sauber's Giancarlo Fisichella (15th) suffered a suspension failure in practice. ''The T-car didn't have the latest aero kit,'' the Roman lamented. |
