from the Paddock - Silverstone 07-10-2004 Renault's Pat Symonds is 'absolutely amazed' teams like Ferrari, BMW-Williams and McLaren can't match the R24's so-called 'manual start' clutch system. ''There are elements of [electronic] control,'' the engineering boss admitted. ''We learned an awful lot from our automatic system [of '03].'' Marc Gene is no closer to keeping Ralf Schumacher's BMW-Williams race drive for the remaining seven grands prix after the British race at Silverstone. ''We're still [deciding] on a race-by-race basis,'' said Sam Michael. F1 teams should be informed next Friday if the Technical Working Group's proposed 'diffuser' modifications are acceptable to the governing FIA. ''We're making bigger cuts than we probably would like,'' said BMW-Williams' technical director, ''but I think overall we're all fairly happy with it.''
