The first 18 drivers were within less than a second. On Friday morning, Green won the qualification race which was redflagged after nine of ten laps because Richard Antinucci had stalled his car after a spin at a dangerous point of the circuit. At the start of the Super Prix, Green took the lead ahead of Rosberg whilst Hamilton improved from 11th on the grid to fourth after the opening lap. At the end of this lap the Safety Car was deployed after an incident involving Danilo Dirani, Ross Zwolsman and Alexandre Prémat (Dallara Mercedes).

After the re-start on lap three Hamilton improved to second place, however, he dropped to third behind Rosberg on lap eight. After a collision of Ho Pin Tung and Daisuke Ikeda on lap 17, the Saftey Car was deployed again for two laps. After the re-start at the beginning of lap 19, Rosberg attacked Green at the end of the front straight. Hamilton benefited from their battle, took them by surprise and went into the lead which he maintained until the chequered flag. Green dropped to fourth but made up one place and came home third.Prémat suffered from a damaged tyre following the collision on the first lap. He pitted for new tyres and rejoined the race in last place. He finally came home ninth.

Comments:
Lewis Hamilton:

“I’m really happy about today’s victory. It was a tough race, but at the halfway point I realised that I could make it. The second re-start came surprisingly, because the lights at the Safety Car were switched off very late.”

Jamie Green:
“Halfway through the race my rear tyres faded a bit and as a consequence I made some small mistakes. In the closing stages everything was OK again and without the second Safety Car period I might have won. Congratulation to Lewis on his victory.”

Norbert Haug, Vice President Mercedes-Benz Motorsport:

“Two wins in both races like at Macau conclude a remarkable season for the young drivers' support programme of Mercedes-Benz in Formula 3. 19 victories out of 25 races in Euro Series, the Masters at Zandvoort and the races at Macau and Bahrain with starting fields of international top Formula 3 drivers are an exceptional balance. After qualifying 22nd and finishing 11th in the qualification race Lewis Hamilton performed very well by winning the main event. Thanks to all team members, to the HWA engine team and to the Mercedes Junior drivers for their first-class job, for which without doubt our engine was an important foundation-stone.”
