F1 rookie Christian Klien intends to heed his Jaguar boss' warning and start showing speed worthy of retaining the grand prix drive beyond this season.

David Pitchforth said this week the 21-year-old Austrian has to 'prove' he deserves the seat whilst admitting the team was looking around for alternatives.

Klien said the first half of '04 was used for 'learning about' F1.

''Now I have to build on what I've learned and show my talent.''

Christian said even circuits he knows - like Imola and Hockenheim - feel 'completely different' at the wheel of a 900bhp grand prix challenger.

''So, more or less, you're new on every circuit,'' he said.

''Normally I take the whole of Friday to get used to the track and only on Saturday do I start to work on the car and the set-up with the engineers.''

Klien said there's 'no point' getting upset by adverse media reports.

''If you think too much about them,'' he added, ''it's no good for you.''
