Dubai is 'in negotiations' to buy and manage a Formula One team.

All eyes immediately turned to Eddie Jordan's privately-owned and financially ailing grand prix outfit based just across the road here at Silverstone.

A statement issued by Dubai's Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum added that 'Grand Prix Investments' team would be 'headquartered' in the Gulf emirate.

Maktoum said the team would be known as the 'official' Dubai team.

A spokesman for a company 'advising' GPI told publications that the 'European based' team in question would not be 'completely' moved to Dubai.

Eddie Jordan declined to confirm or deny the speculation.

He said the yellow-liveried team is 'frequently' associated with buy-out stories ''and the prospect of Jordan ... being in talks is not extraordinary.''
