| DRIVERS STANDING |
Montoya 07-09-2004 Juan Pablo Montoya urged BMW-Williams against putting 'guest' drivers like '97 F1 world champion Jacques Villeneuve into the vacant race seat at Hockenheim. The Colombian is backing tester Marc Gene to see out the season. ''If you put someone else in there,'' said Grove's regular racer, ''he'll need to do a lot of testing, a lot of laps just to get up to the speed Marc can do.'' Conversely, 28-year-old Juan criticised Williams for not giving the Spaniard enough time at tests to focus on how to tackle the grands prix as substitute. ''If I was Frank,'' he said, ''I'd send him to the next test and really let him go on the car. I don't think they've experimented to discover what he wants.'' A Williams 'insider' claims Gene is 'on a shortlist' of drivers to team-mate Mark Webber in 2005. Marc is pleased with the current vote of confidence. ''I've shown I'm good enough to be here,'' he said at Silverstone. ''I hope I can now show I'm good enough for next year.'' |
