07-10-2004 Jenson Button has ditched his 'Union Jack' helmet for the British GP. In its place is a red-and-white design with England's traditional St. George's Cross. ''We're struggling a bit in other sports,'' said the Formula One driver. ''So that's the reason really. And it's a bit of a change.'' If triple world champion Niki Lauda has a piece of advice for the Briton, it's that he needs to 'assert himself decisively' over BAR team-mate Takuma Sato. The Austrian said Taku's been 'surprisingly quick' on occasion. ''If Jenson wants to make the next step,'' said Lauda, ''he'll need to raise his game to keep control [of Sato]. But that's all part of the challenge.'' Meanwhile, Britain's former GP favourite David Coulthard would be 'genuinely' happy if Button won at Silverstone. ''But I'd also think 'Damn - he won.'' * Toyota's Mike Gascoyne has backed the pinnacle of motor sport amid suggestions it is too expensive, not exciting enough and 'heading for disaster. ''I don't really agree,'' said the technical director. He told The Guardian: ''I'm optimistic. More countries than ever want a GP and the TV income is assured for the long-term. So I feel very upbeat indeed.'' |
