NEWS Tyre regulations 2002
DRIVERS STANDING

There are no changes to the FIA rules on tyres for the start of the 2002 season, so the 2001 regulations stand.

Quantity of tyres:

Dry weather tyre: 40 per driver
Wet weather tyre: 28 per driver

From the dry weather tyres, each driver will be allocated three sets for the first day of practice, one set of which must be of a different specification to the other two. These tyres must not be used at any other time during the event.

Number of tyre specifications:

Dry weather tyre: 2
Wet weather tyre: 3

Size of tyres:

Maximum complete wheel diameter - dry: 660mm
Maximum complere wheel diameter - wet: 670mm

Maximum complete wheel width - front: 355mm - rear: 380mm
Minimum complete wheel width - front: 305mm - rear: 365mm

Maximum tread width - front: 270mm - rear: no restriction Wheel bead diameter: 328mm-332mm (+/-2.5mm)

Size of grooves:

All dry weather tyres must incorporate circumferential grooves square to the wheel axis and around the entire circumference of the contact surface of each tyre.

Number of grooves: 4 (front and rear) Shape of grooves: minimum 14mm wide at top; minimum 10mm at base; minimum 2.5mm deep (front and rear)

Distance between grooves: 50mm (+/-1mm) between centres (front and rear)
