on Bridgestone tyres led the times on all three days of the multi-team test
at the Circuit de Catalunya near Barcelona. Jordan Honda remains the sole
Bridgestone team at the Spanish track today as they continue their programme. On Tuesday, Michael Schumacher led a Bridgestone top-four with a fastest lap of 1:18.444, followed by his Scuderia Ferrari Marlboro teammate Rubens Barrichello, Nick Heidfeld for Sauber Petronas and Anthony Davidson, Lucky Strike B.A.R Honda test driver. Ferrari set out to continue their tyre development programme on Wednesday. However, the day ended prematurely when Michael Schumacher went off the track at high speed in the morning, followed less than three hours later by Rubens Barrichello. Both cars were damaged so badly that the team suspended the test and returned to Maranello where they could be repaired. By the end of the session, however, they still led the times, with Barrichello's 1:18.096 lap remaining unbeaten. Nick Heidfeld was again third fastest, while his teammate Felipe Massa, new to Sauber Petronas this season, completed his first race distance. Thursday saw just Sauber Petronas and Jordan Honda on the track on Bridgestone tyres. Nick Heidfeld continued an impressive week by leading the times with a 1:17.891, followed by Felipe Massa with a 1:18.605. Hisao Suganuma, Bridgestone Motorsport's technical manager, said: "At this test we have focused on the selection of the best compound and construction for Melbourne. We have tried several options and managed to cut down the list of candidates to a manageable number. The final selection of the Melbourne race tyre will be made soon. "It has been an encouraging week with some promising lap times for a number of our teams. And the weather has been relatively kind to us this time, remaining fine and cool all week, which has allowed us to get through plenty of work." The final Barcelona test before the start of the season will be February 11-13. Next week Scuderia Ferrari Marlboro will test at Mugello while all other Bridgestone teams will head for Valencia, including OrangeArrows who are also expected to join the test.
